The Start of the Stomach Bug

So, I started writing this a couple of weeks ago and never published it. I'm determined to catch up on these last couple of crazy weeks. Here is my attempt.

So, it has been a crazy couple of days around here.  First of all, I'd been planning a spring break trip with my college girlfriends. Since graduating almost 6 years ago(hard to believe that it has been that long) I have never had a spring break. The story of my job saga is for another blog post, but i've been working in healthcare since graduation. I've never had a full week off at at time. I've worked holidays, Christmas Eve, Christmas day...just to name a few. All my college friends are teachers, so it is hard for us to get together during the year. I haven't been working since mid march, so when they decided we would get together, I was excited that I would get to join. We have been planning for the last couple of weeks to head to the mountains. My grandparents own a cabin in highlands, nc and that's where we decided we would go for a couple of days. Since I'm not working right now, my mom suggested that the two of us should go up beforehand. We needed to turn on the water, turn up the heat, and do a couple of other housekeeping things. I have many fond memories of my childhood in highlands as we went there a lot when we were growing up. We had also planned for my sister and my adorable niece and nephew to go as well. They had never been before and we thought it would be fun to introduce them to the mountains. First of all I should show you my cute niece and nephew. This is Anna Cile and Copeland.

This is not a great picture of Anna Cile, but it is the best I could do. I'm just using pictures from my cell phone.
So, now would be the time to give a little bit of a background. The stomach virus has been going around like wildfire around town. I work in the church nursery and actually got to experience being thrown up on. Twice I might add..I didn't think I would get thrown up on until I became a mom and yet I've already gotten to experience it:(  So maybe due to all that I must have built up a pretty good inmune system because being around babies and sick people every week, I still have not gotten sick. Well, my nephew got sick Monday and my sister started feeling bad on Tuesday. We were planning on all heading up the mountain on Wednesday, so I was pretty bummed that they wouldn't be joining us. We(my mom and I) decided at the last minute that Anna Cile would go with us. Since my sister was sick, we were gonna give her a break. So, Anna Cile went on her first trip to the mountains

We took a walk downtown got ourselves some yummy ice cream! Highlands has the best place for ice cream...It is a place called Sweet Treats and it is delicious.
Anna Cile hanging out at the mountain house.
So, we had a great day, but it ended kinda crazy..Anna Cile is kind of a fussy baby and she started screaming about half an hour from home. We couldn't get her happy and we thought she might be hungry. We decided to keep heading home as my sister was sicker and my mom was going to Copeland home with her. As we got home, I got Anna Cile out of her car seat and I noticed there was blood all in her ear. I freaked out and gave her to my mom. We cleaned out her ear and she was able to eat(which calmed her down). We couldn't figure out what happened to her ear, but my sister didn't seem so concerned. I went on home needing to pack for the trip tomorrow with my friends. Around 10 that night, my mom called.  It is never a good sign when my mom calls that late. She was worried that Anna Cile's eardrum had burst and they wanted to take her to the ER. So they wanted me to come stay with Copeland at their house because they(my folks) were both going to head to the ER. My brother in law was out of town and my sister was so sick and knew she couldn't really keep good care of her. So, after a thirty minute drive..i get to their house and in that time they have decided after talking to a doctor friend who is an ENT to not take her to the ER, but just take her in for an appointment in the morning. So, I drive back home exhausted. I'm worried that we ruptured my little nieces eardrum and I'm also worried that I'm gonna get the stomach bug from being around my sickly family. The good news is I didn't get the stomach bug yet...yet is the important word here and i had a great time with my friends in the mountains. Hopefully a fun post to come in the next few days about our fun trip to the mountains:)

Why Blogging Could be a Bad Idea

I love to read other people's blogs and have thought for a long time about starting one of my own. There were several reasons that I thought blogging might be a bad idea for me. First of all, it took me way longer to create this blog than I thought it would. Who knew there were so many choices for layouts and colors. I almost wanted to give up at that point, ha. Secondly, writing is not my thing. I hate writing emails. I have always thought people who wrote journals were cool and have even started a few journals of my own...key word there being started. It is not something I have kept up with.  Also, I don't really know what Ill blog about. Most people have a purpose in blogging. They blog about their travels or food that they cook. Most people though blog about their everyday lives. My everyday life is not that interesting. Right now, I'm unemployed, I'm single, and I have no kids..so what could possibly go on in my everyday life that could be interesting. So, this could be a very boring blog:) But even though this could be a very bad idea, I'm committed to at least blogging a couple of times per week. It's not like I don't have the time and I think it could be very useful for me. So, here's to blogging and the adventures that it may bring.
